Automation has been utilised predominately in large commercial and in exclusive “high end” residential properties over the past 3 decades and has now become much more common throughout all property types.
Automation essentially provides the user the ability to access and control devices remotely from a mobile device or “smart device” anywhere in the world. Automation can control an array of things such as lights, appliances, electrical outlets, heating and cooling systems as well as security systems.
Automation is actually only one of the two main characteristics of home automation. “Automation” is in reference to the ability to program and schedule events for the devices that have been put on the network. The programming may include time-related commands, such as having your lights turn on or off at specific times each day. It can also include non-scheduled events, such as turning on all the lights in your home when your security system alarm is triggered.
When we can outline what the clients wants to have in their property to suit their property or lifestyle, the possibilities and creative solution options are countless. The property can be programmed to suit a daily routine, holiday settings or even specific security settings.
The other main characteristic is remote monitoring access. Monitoring access can provide a considerable amount of information about the property, including information for the current status as well as a detailed history of what has happened previously. In residential properties, things such as checking if your doors are locked, if the lights are on and if so where, what current temperature the property is and much more.
Another main advantage of automation is the potential savings in energy usage and costs. Even with an entry level home automation system using basic lighting control, it enables the user to schedule the usage to suit the daily routine or even have them operated by sensors to ensure there is only the required amount of energy used throughout the property.
We also offer what we refer to as a “green switch” that can turn off all non-essential electrical items in the home when leaving to ensure nothing is missed and therefore not drawing energy and increasing unnecessary costs.
As our lifestyles become increasingly busier and technology becomes smarter, we can start to transition our homes to more suit our lifestyle instead of our lifestyle fitting our home. Also with an added bonus of being able to have a more streamlined and cost-effective system, which will offer different features to be able to save the user time and money.
